A story of British resilience based on the personal recollections of my father, (Sgt) Donald Jeffs, the sole survivor of the crash of a Stirling Bomber carrying this famous name.

The MacRoberts Reply Story tells of a grieving mother making a donation to the RAF to buy a Stirling bomber to seek revenge for the loss of her sons, and the young men who flew it.

It tells of the amazing courage of the crew, the wonderful respect shown to them by the people of Denmark following the crash, and the resilience of the sole survivor. In between it describes their daily lives, their friendships and anecdotes, and the underlying determination of Lady MacRobert for retribution.

The story is constructed by author Phil Hamlyn Williams using personal recollections from the last crew member Donald Jeffs, and incorporating many years of research from his son Philip Jeffs. There is more on the website www.macrobertsreply.com

Can't believe it - the books have arrived at home from the printers and I am stuck at work. It will be the longest afternoon ever just waiting to get my hands on one! The publishers, Story Terrace, will receive theirs today as well hopefully and will be sending them to everyone who purchased one of the limited run. I hope you all enjoy it. If you do please let me know on my Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/MacRobertsReply/ Regards Philip Jeffs

Hi everyone, I have just been informed that the book will be dispatched on 20 December. It couldn't be at a worst time for the post, especially for overseas, so my apologies for that but its beyond my control. But at least it is actually happening. I hope you enjoy the book when you get it. Regards Philip

Hi everyone, my sincere apologies but I have just been advised that there will be a small delay in publication of about 2 weeks. While this is not a major issue it does I am afraid raise the prospect of the book perhaps not arriving for some of you before Christmas when you factor in the busy post at this time of year. If anyone had bought the book as a Christmas present for a loved one then I can only apologise but it is out of my hands I'm afraid. However, trust me, it will be worth waiting for. I will try to provide a new delivery date when I am informed of one, but yet again I must thank you for your ongoing patience. Best regards Philip Jeffs

Hello all, I have been told that the book is due for delivery to you during week commencing 5 December, so in time for Christmas. The books going overseas may take a little longer but please be assured they will be going out at the same time as the UK deliveries. As you know by pre-ordering the book your name will be listed inside the cover as a contributor, and on any subsequent reprints it will always be there, so thank you for being part of this amazing journey with me. Thank you all for your patience. I cannot wait for the day when I am able to take a photo of my father holding a copy of the book - that will make my Christmas! I will post it on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MacRobertsReply in due course. Regards Philip Jeffs

Hi Reg, its not a 'local' book. You know dad because he lives there, but the story is centered around RAF Wyton , Denmark, and Silesia. They are of curse free to order a copy if they wish.

Philip, With such a small print run,I would not expect any trade copies to be available, I am sure Heaps our local bookstore would take a few copies if available.

Philip Jeffs - Added a message9 months ago

Reserve your place in history! I have just been advised that Story Terrace intend the print the names of everyone who has pre-ordered the MacRobert's Reply Story inside the cover of the book as a thank you for donating towards the campaign. So, your last chance to be forever recorded in print inside the book! If you have not yet pre-ordered you can do so here (see below) but hurry, you only have a couple of weeks left.

Philip Jeffs - Added a message9 months ago

Publisher's are hoping to have the book produced in about 4 weeks time!

Philip Jeffs - Added a message10 months ago

Due to recent donations (which were very gratefully received) the initial funding is now in place to at least start the publication run for those folks who have donated. I am talking to the publisher now about getting the final proofing and front cover design finished asap to allow the books to be published and distributed. Thanks for keeping the faith. if anyone else wants to contribute by pre-ordering a book you can still do so as per the details below.

I have just been offered a contribution of £100 from someone with a connection to one of the MacRobert sons - more to follow soon!

Philip Jeffs - Added a message10 months ago

Please note - target now lowered to £650 (although I can't change what it shows here), so nearly there!

Philip Jeffs - Added a message10 months ago

Getting closer - keep the faith...

Philip Jeffs - Added a message10 months ago

Discussions ongoing with the publisher's about going ahead anyway despite the fact that their target has not been reached yet - watch this space as they say ....

Since my Grandfather was a MacRobert I am quite anxious to read the story. He declined to pilot the Reply since he had just attained US citizenship and had joined the US Navy

The book is now finished and simply awaiting final proofing and artwork. I have collaborated with a professional author (Phil Hamlyn-Williams) to create a book about the amazing history of the MacRobert’s Reply. It explains how the name came to be associated with a Short Stirling bomber in WW2, and what happened to the aircraft and its crew. Woven into the book is my father’s association with the MacRobert’s Reply Story, and his own incredible survival of the crash, imprisonment as a POW, and participation on the famous ‘Long March’. The book is approximately 21K words plus pictures, so although somewhat shorter than a mainstream title, nevertheless I hope it will be a compelling read and something unique. I priced the book accordingly and I am taking no profit whatsoever from the book sales in order to be able to offer it at the lowest cost possible. When you click on the 'Donate' button you will be taken onto a page from the book publisher’s, Story-Starter. You will need to create a simple account to be able to pre-order the book, but this is very easily done using your social media account if you wish. Please use the ‘donate’ tab on the Story Starter page to pre-order at the UK delivery-inclusive price of £11.50. For any deliveries outside of the UK please add on any additional postage for international delivery to your location, and the use the ‘other’ button to place your pre-order at the new amount. Please note the page uses only Great British pounds (GBP). The book will be published in the next couple of months providing the funding campaign raises the necessary number of pre-orders to pay for the print setup costs. If for whatever reason the funding campaign fails to meet its target, all monies will be repaid in full by the publishers so there is no risk attached.

Philip Jeffs - Added a messagea year ago

The book is being crowdfunded simply to ensure that the initial setup costs for the publisher are covered before printing commences. Please be assured that your pre-order is completely risk-free as should the minimum campaign value not be achieved (I hope this is not likely to happen) then your payment will be refunded in full by Story Terrace. The books will be printed and dispatched as soon as the campaign value is reached and does not need to wait for the campaign end date. The cost of the book covers the printing costs and a small royalty to Phil Hamlyn Williams, the author who provided professional assistance to turn my research (and his own) into such a compelling read. There is no profit for me as that was not the reason for creating the book. The price of the book also covers UK shipping costs so the price quoted is the only amount you will pay.
